Abstract

Abstract: The expectations developed by women in relation to labor and delivery are based on previous experiences, cultural and religious aspects, information collected by peers, family and the media. Very focused on the fear of pain, death and fetal malformations, translating into feelings of anxiety and fear. Objective: Unhide the available evidence on how the woman's/couple's expectations can influence the experience of labor. Method: Method: Scoping Review according to the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute®. Search carried out on the ESCOhost platform, on the MEDLINE Complete, CINAHL Complete, Cochrane Controlled Trials databases and on the PubMED platform, in August 2022. Results: Three articles were included, published between 2018 and 2020. The women/couple value information, the their involvement in decision-making, safety in care, care provided by qualified professionals, satisfaction of their physiological needs and the presence of a companion at the time of delivery. Conclusion: The parturients who have the highest degree of satisfaction with the labor are those who have seen their expectations respected. It is essential that pregnant women have reliable information, so that they can make correct choices, with quality nursing care being a means of achieving this.
